What does this link look like when it's shared?

Get the title, description, image, favicon and site name of any page, the same details apps use to build a link preview. Use it here, or from your own app through the API.

Free, with no account needed.

What it checks

What you get from the url metadata

  • Everything a preview needs

    Title, description, image, favicon, site name, language and canonical address.

  • Sensible fallbacks

    Open Graph first, then standard tags, then the standard favicon location.

  • As JSON

    Copy the result, or call it from your own code.

For developers

Three lines from your own code

Every tool is also an API, with one simple answer format. Keep your key on your server.

JavaScript

const res = await fetch("https://www.purlock.com/v1/tools/url-metadata?target=https%3A%2F%2Fexample.com", {
  headers: { authorization: `Bearer ${process.env.PURLOCK_API_KEY}` },
});
const report = await res.json();

Prompt for Cursor or Lovable

Add a call to the Purlock URL metadata API on the server side of this app. Send GET https://www.purlock.com/v1/tools/url-metadata?target=VALUE with the header "Authorization: Bearer" and the PURLOCK_API_KEY environment variable. The JSON answer has status ("good", "attention" or "bad"), headline, checks (each with level, title, detail, fix) and data. If the call fails or times out after 3 seconds, carry on as if it wasn't there. Never put the API key in client code.

Free plan: 100 calls a month. Individual: 5,000. Business: 25,000.

FAQ

Questions, answered

What are Open Graph tags?
Tags in a page's HTML that tell apps which title, description and image to show when the link is shared.
Why does my link show the wrong image?
Usually because og:image is missing or points somewhere that doesn't load. Apps also keep old previews for a while after you fix it.
Can I use it from code?
Yes. It's available through the Purlock API.
