Privacy Policy
What we collect, why, who sees it, how long we keep it and the control you have. We collect as little as we can, and we never sell personal data.
Last updated 29 October 2026
The short version
No account needed
You can scan a website without signing up. We never store your IP address in readable form.
Public pages only
PurlockBot reads only what any visitor could see. It never logs in or fills in forms.
No tracking or ads
No advertising or analytics cookies, no tracking across other websites, and we never sell personal data.
Old data goes
Hashed IPs are removed after 30 days, and scans not saved to an account are deleted after 12 months.
01Who is responsible
Spendjot Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16431337), is the controller of personal data processed through Purlock. Our registered office is 86-90 Paul Street, London, England, EC2A 4NE. For anything about your data, email support@spendjot.app.
02What we collect and why
| Data | What it is | Why | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Scans | The address you scan, the public text of the pages we read, and the findings, facts and score we produce | Running the scan and showing you the report | Legitimate interests (free scans) or contract (signed in) |
| Network data | A salted, one way hash of your IP address, stored with each scan. We can't turn it back into your IP address | Daily limits and preventing abuse | Legitimate interests |
| Bot check | Cloudflare Turnstile checks your browser when you submit a form, using signals such as your IP address and browser details | Stopping automated abuse | Legitimate interests |
| Account details | Your email address, and your name and profile picture if you sign in with Google or GitHub | Running your account | Contract |
| Your workspace | Scans saved to your account and, on paid plans, facts you confirm and settings you choose | Providing the service | Contract |
| Billing | Your plan, its status and your Stripe customer reference. Stripe holds your card details; we never see them | Taking payment and keeping records | Contract and legal obligation |
| Prices and promotions | Stripe lookup keys and prices you add, promotions you plan, and, if you connect Stripe, a restricted key that can only manage prices, stored encrypted | Running your promotions | Contract |
| Email log | Which emails we sent you and when | Avoiding duplicate emails and keeping sending limits | Legitimate interests |
| Messages | What you send us by email, such as a support request | Replying to you | Contract or legitimate interests |
Our legitimate interests are running a useful free service safely, keeping it fair for everyone and improving it. We don't make decisions about you that have legal or similarly significant effects based only on automated processing.
03Websites we scan
Scans read public web pages. Those pages can include personal data that their owner chose to publish, such as a contact name, email address or phone number. We process it only as part of the page text, to check the website for problems, and we don't use it to contact or profile anyone.
If you own a website that was scanned and want the results deleted, email us and we'll remove them. You can also stop future scans by blocking PurlockBot in your robots.txt, as explained on the PurlockBot page.
04AI processing
To find facts such as prices, trial lengths and refund windows, we send the text of scanned pages to Anthropic, the company behind Claude, through its API. We don't send your name, email address or IP address with it. Under Anthropic's commercial terms, this data isn't used to train its models, and Anthropic keeps it only for a limited period for safety and abuse monitoring.
06International transfers
Some providers process data outside the UK and EEA, mainly in the USA. Where that happens, we rely on adequacy regulations (including the UK and US data bridge where the provider is certified) or on standard contractual clauses with the UK addendum.
08How long we keep it
| Data | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Account and profile | Until you delete your account (Account settings), or ask us to |
| Scans saved to your account | Until you delete them or your account |
| Scans not saved to an account | 12 months, then deleted automatically |
| Page history of a monitored site | 12 months (Individual) or 24 months (Business), and deleted when you remove the site |
| Fact Sheet, findings and calendar of a monitored site | Until you remove the site or your account |
| Check before you publish | Only the first line of a pasted draft and how many issues it had; never the draft itself |
| Phone size screenshots of findings | 120 days, then deleted automatically |
| Audit log of sensitive account actions | 2 years, for security, then deleted automatically |
| Error reports (scrubbed of personal data) | 90 days, then deleted automatically |
| Requests for help fixing your site | 12 months, then deleted automatically |
| IP address hashes | 30 days, then removed automatically |
| Email log | 12 months, then deleted automatically |
| Server logs | A short period, for security and debugging |
| Billing records | 6 years, for tax and accounting law |
| Emails with us | As long as needed to help you, then up to 2 years |
09Security
Everything is encrypted in transit. Our database can't be read through public interfaces, only by our own servers. We never store IP addresses in readable form, there are no passwords to leak, and full scan results are only shown to their owner. No system is perfectly secure, but we'll tell you and the regulator promptly if a breach puts your data at risk.
10Your rights
Under UK and EU data protection law, you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of your data, or send it to you in a portable format;
- correct anything that's wrong;
- delete your data or your account;
- restrict how we use your data, or object to uses based on legitimate interests.
Email support@spendjot.app and we'll reply within one month. If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, or to your local data protection authority if you live in the EU. We'd appreciate the chance to sort it out first.
11Children
Purlock isn't meant for anyone under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has given us data, email us and we'll delete it.
12Changes to this policy
We'll update this policy when Purlock changes, and change the date at the top of the page. For material changes, we'll tell account holders by email or in the app before they take effect.
